How to Optimise Product Pages for SEO
Well-optimised product pages rank in Google and convert visitors into buyers. Here's how to do both at the same time.

Your product pages are where money is made. They're also some of the easiest pages to optimise — yet most e-commerce sites do it badly. A well-optimised product page can rank on page one for specific product searches, bringing in high-intent buyers who are ready to purchase.The Anatomy of an Optimised Product Page
1. The Title Tag
Your title tag (the blue link in Google) is the most important element. It should:- Include your main product keyword
- Be specific (not just "Running Shoes" but "Women's Lightweight Trail Running Shoes")
- Include your brand name
- Be under 60 characters
2. The Meta Description
Treat it like ad copy. What makes this product worth buying? What problem does it solve? Include the keyword. Keep it under 160 characters.3. The Product Name (H1)
Your H1 should be your product name — clear, specific, and keyword-rich. "Women's Lightweight Trail Running Shoe in Blue" is better than "Trail Shoe".4. The Product Description
This is where most product pages fail. "Great quality. Buy now." is not a product description. Write at least 200–300 words covering:- What the product is and who it's for
- Key features and benefits (not just a spec list)
- How to use it
- Who it's ideal for
5. Image Alt Text
Every product image needs descriptive alt text. "product-image-1.jpg" tells Google nothing. "Women's blue lightweight trail running shoe, side view" tells Google exactly what it's looking at.6. Structured Data
Add Product schema markup to your product pages. This can enable rich results — price, rating, availability — in Google search results. These rich results typically get much higher click-through rates.7. Customer Reviews
Reviews add unique, keyword-rich content to your page. They improve trust signals for both Google and shoppers. Enable reviews and make it easy for customers to leave them.8. Internal Linking
